Mini Bio

Hi, my name is Chris. I am 40 years old, married to Sharon and have 2 young children. I have Chiari and Syringomyelia and went through Decompression surgery in April 2009. The aim of this blog is to raise awareness of this condition and offer support by way of helpful information to other sufferers. This blog represents my own experiences, those of my friends and people that I have met with these conditions and the great advice that I have been offered and my journey towards either acceptance or recovery.

The Last Week

Well, its been a mixture of all kinds of stuff going on....some positive, some negative and some just downright mediocre lol

Ended up in A&E last weekend and had to wait 4 hours in there to be put onto a nebuliser - I wan't the only one either..... mind you, I had asked when I went in could I bet put on one! I did have severe breathing difficulties at the time. Oh well.......

Had a run in with a "Twitter Guru" who basically spat his "cyber dummy"....great reaction, showed him up to be a hypocrite with all the hype that he created from it! I then penned an article on brand protection on the back of it.

Have been seeing the visitor stats rising here to a massive rate - I think yesterdays have been the highest ever in 2 months......... great news!

Oh, I also realised that I have Fibromyalgia......... not officially of course, have not been to a GP about it yet. I always thought that it was just a term to call certain types of pain - but no, its much much more than that. I have been experiencing "other symptoms" for such a long time and have blamed them all on the Chiari / SM, but in fact reading through it and researching it has given me a definite thing to focus upon and then get treatment.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want another condition at all. I am just glad that I can now group the symptoms that I have got, and get "aimed" treatment. I had heard it banded around an mentioned a few times, but like I said thought it just refers to "muscle pain" from the Latin origin of its name. All that research that I have done, and all this time I have missed it?

I have also seen a new procedure from the USA where they are using an "endoscope" to perform Decompression surgery - key hole surgery as it were. So it may be the advent of the demise of the 8 inch scar?

There was also a link from the USA where there are concerns over patients with serious Neurological conditions should think about whether or not to get the H1N1 Flu Vaccine. There are some serious reports and observations over there adding to the already controversial confusion.
