Mini Bio

Hi, my name is Chris. I am 40 years old, married to Sharon and have 2 young children. I have Chiari and Syringomyelia and went through Decompression surgery in April 2009. The aim of this blog is to raise awareness of this condition and offer support by way of helpful information to other sufferers. This blog represents my own experiences, those of my friends and people that I have met with these conditions and the great advice that I have been offered and my journey towards either acceptance or recovery.

High praise for forgotten achievement

So I live my daily life with Chiari and Syringomyelia and offer my own personal experiences to help others overcome what seem to be every day obstacles to many, but to some are mountains to climb and "no entry" signs to get around. Yes it is a hard slog, but one that I am passionate about.

Then out of the blue, someone surprises you and gives you praise for something that you have achieved in the past, have been very proud of but may have put aside to concentrate on the more urgent matters at hand.

Last year my family and I took a large step and purchased our first holiday home in a beautiful and awe inspiring country. To some it's just another holiday destination, to some its one that they hasten to forget. It has been described as the holiday equivalent of "Marmite" (yes....you either love it or hate it!)

I refurbished an ex holiday apartment in Lanzarote. A place that my whole family loves, me especially as it offers all kinds of adventure and allows me to be close, for a brief period to a great extended family of friends. And to develop further friendships that I have made during my visits.

I tend to use the place as a second home, not enough for my own liking but never the less a warm weathered and welcoming retreat.

I also rent this place out to happy holiday makers who want to take a break from the hum drum of normal life. It helps us maintain the apartment and keeps it safe from being empty and un-used.

I had a call today from one guest that has been there for the last 2 weeks. Just someone that replied to one of my ad's and has enjoyed their stay thoroughly.

They called today to ask me if they can book for another two weeks next year and could they pay me straight away to secure the booking, as they were sure that if not then they might miss out.

True to say that it is popular, an accolade to the amount of work and money that I put into it last year.

They also asked if they could book another week later in the year, if they could also give my details to one of their friends, if they could recommend it to others as they have indeed given me a "sales lead" to another couple that they met on holiday that wanted to return next year, but didn't like their current accommodation.

Wow! Talk about a really motivational phone call.

We talk a lot about blogging and that "content is king" and that it's all about "quality" and that quality sells. Well - this is living evidence of the same.

I have never been into hard sales, and prefer to let the product speak for itself in the main. Well, it certainly has paid off for me today.

Next thing on the agenda is to re-hash the website to reflect the quality of the apartment. Guess what I will be doing over the weekend?

Fancy a holiday yourself?
